Den 19. februar 2024 varslet Norge om et bekreftet utbrudd av HPAI i en fjørfebesetning på cirka 18 000 fugler. Norge har iverksatt nødvendige sykdomsbekjempende tiltak, inkludert etablering av beskyttelses- og overvåkingssoner rundt utbruddet.
EØS-reglene krever at ESA vurderer tiltak iverksatt av norske myndigheter ved utbrudd av spesifikke sykdommer, inkludert HPAI. Lovverket tar sikte på å sikre dyrehelse og mattrygghet, samt å unngå at handel innenfor EØS-området blir påvirket mer enn nødvendig.
